#4 Register Your Blog and Track Your Progress

Listen to this podcast -

If you’ve made it this far, you already have three items or “things” completed of the ’23 Things.’ We hope you are enjoying the adventure so far and having fun. Remember to share what you are learning with colleagues - you may help them out if they get stuck or vice versa!

But how do you qualify for the recognition you deserve? Good question! By registering your blog and recording your progress on each of the 23 things. (You'll definitely want to be recognized if you are a staff member in a Maryland public library because we are able to award you with 1.8 CEUs for completing this program. Also, some library organizations are able to award additional prizes!) There are two steps:

First, register your blog with your liaison. (Unsure who's your liaison? Check the Participants link). This week, your liaison will send you an email with details on how to register. This is so we can post your blog address on the Participants list. (Your liaison will post your blog address to the blog, so please give them some time to do this). Also, we'll be checking blogs to get a sense of how everyone's progressing. Then, we can send everyone motivational emails and post Tips. Remember, how you choose to identity yourself on your blog is up to you. You can blog under a screen name, anonymously, or with your real name.

Second, begin using the 23 Things Tracking Log to track your own progress. Your liaison will send you the form or you can download it here. At the end of the program, your liaison will remind you to return the completed log.

Starting with Thing #5 (but include Thing #2 also), you will also need to include the URL for the permanent link to each of your blog posts that capture your thoughts, comments or findings about your discovery process. And depending upon the Blogger template that you selected, the permanent link for each individual posts can be found either through the post’s title or through a link in the post's footer area the contains the date.

Example: Here is where you would find the permalink for this sample blog post:

This is the link that you want to use when recording your progress in the 23 Things Tracking Log. Simply click on the Permalink, copy the URL of the web page that it takes you to, and paste the URL into your Log under the Blog Post Permalink URL column to show that you have completed the Thing.

To make recording easy, we would suggest that you make a habit of recording your progress weekly. Don't forget to return to the email that you saved for Thing 2, and copy/paste it as a blog entry and then include the permalink on your tracking log.

P.S. If your library is not listed in Participants, you can still follow along, but you don't need to do this second step. If you want to register your blog somewhere where others are following a 23 Things program, just use the list found at 43 Things to record your progress. You'll need to create a 43 Things account first. Alas, we're sorry that we can’t include any CEUs or prizes. We hope just the fun of following along is enough. :)
